Amazing goal by Ronaldinho

Messi Versus Neymar

MetLife Stadium will host when Lionel Messi and Argentina meet Neymar and Brazil, with each team gearing up for the Olympics. Goal.com will have LIVE commentary of the matchup.
International Friendly Preview: Argentina - Brazil
Alejandro Sabella's side will be at full strength when they take on a relatively inexperienced Selecao outfit in their final warm-up game before the tournament in England

Alejandro Sabella's side is coming into the match off the back off an impressing 4-0 win over Ecuador in World Cup qualifying. Despite that the 57-year-old has sought to shake things up and has been testing out a 5-3-2 in training that would see Javier Mascherano move into the defense.

However, with Mascherano and Sergio Aguero picking up bookings in that match that rule them out of the Albiceleste's next qualifier, Sabella could choose to line up in a 4-4-2 but opt for different personnel. Agustin Orion is likely to be given a chance between the sticks at the expense of Sergio Romero.

Brazil's Olympic hopefuls impressed with wins over both Denmark and the United States in the past two weeks before a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mexico brought expectations back down to earth.

Mano Menezes faces one key injury worry with Thiago Silva unlikely to recover from a knock in time for the clash. Bruno Uvini will thus partner Juan Jesus at the back, giving Brazil a defense with an average age of just over 21.

The rest of the team is likely to remain the same but Menezes may decide to bring in a new name to the attack with Hulk possibly making way for Wellington Nem.

Villa: “The new season will be a new challenge”

The Barça striker is counting the days until he is fully recovered from the fractured tibia that has seen him sidelined since December

“All I want right now is to be fit all year in order to be able to compete at 100% and win a place in the team”, said the Asturian, who wants to be back by July 16, the day that the squad will regroup for the new season

On missing out on Euro 2012, Villa said “I owe myself to the club and I can’t go there assuming the risk of getting injured even more seriously and for Barça to have to pay the cost”

On June 15, it will be six months since David Villa fractured his tibia in the semi finals of the Clubs World Cup in Japan. Half a year later, and the player senses it is nearly time to resume the old routine of training, travelling and playing alongside his Barça team mates. In an interview with Barça TV, Villa admitted that his target had been to be ready in time to play at Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. “In the end I didn’t make it in time for logical reasons seeing as it was such a serious injury. I won’t be in Poland, but the new season starts in July and that’ll be a new challenge … I owe myself to the club and I can’t go there assuming the risk of getting injured even more seriously and for Barça to have to pay the cost”.

New competition for places

Villa is not too worried by the possibility of the club reinforcing its forward line this summer. “That is the club’s decision, and it is them who plan the team and evaluate the shortcomings. I know I am at the best club in the world and I know how much competition there is for places … All I want right now is to be fit all year in order to be able to compete at 100% and win a place in the team”. Villa is still working hard every day on his recovery, saying “I want to be fit as quickly as possible, get my form back and be able to join the rest of the squad when they return on July 16”.

From Guardiola to Vilanova

On the change of manager, Villa reckons the decision for Tito Vilanova to take over from Pep Guardiola was the right one. “Tito is more than ready to accept this challenge. Barça fans are scared that he won’t be able to fill the void left by Guardiola, but I don’t think there’s anybody in the world who could do it better than Tito. I think it was the best decision they could have made. I’m sure the team will continue to grow”.

Grateful to Guardiola

But he’ll never forget Pep Guardiola, who “trusted me enough to bring me to Barça … He won the right to decide on his own future and we should respect his decision. I thank him for all he has done for me and the team, and wish him all the best in the future”.

Anzhi Makhachkala Make Plans to Sign Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo

Anzhi hoping to sign world’s best
Anzhi have already taken big strides forward as a club, with the likes of Samuel Eto’o, Yuri Zhirkov and Christopher Samba all having moved to Russia, and Guus Hiddink has now taken charge of the club.
Carlos, who acts as an assistant to the president Suleiman Kerimov in addition to his playing duties, has revealed the club are now setting their sights a little higher.
“Today, Messi is the best player in the world,” he told Radio Marca. “He continues to show that. Cristiano is the key star for Real Madrid.
“I have no preference for either, but certainly Anzhi will try to sign both when their contracts expire.”

Anzhi may well have bucket-loads of cash but the chances of the Dagestan based side landing either Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are slim to none. Whilst the likes of Samuel Eto’o, Yuri Zhirkov and Christopher Samba are very decent captures who may well assist Hiddink’s chances of taking his side further up the Russian Premier League they are not signings in the same league as arguably the two best footballers on planet earth!
Roberto Carlos could well be a useful tool to persuade big name players to make the move to Anzhi but some targets are just out of their reach.
To put things into some sort of perspective it’s also been reported that Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones has been targeted by Anzhi but the Potters man is not keen on making the move.

Barcelona Tracking Napoli Striker Edinson Cavani - Report

Barcelona design a move for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, according to Spanish reports...

Barcelona are drawing up a unique composition for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.

Cadena Ser reports the Camp Nou giants are looking at Cavani, who has exploded into stellar form at Napoli - helping them rise to third in the league.
It is said the Blaugrana believe Cavani would fit in well with Lionel Messi and Pedro up front. However, conflicting reports in Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno prefigure a stay at San Paolo.

And Cavani is aiming to become the league's top scorer.

"I must get past Samuel Eto'o. The people here always make me feel important and they show me affection," said the striker.

Javi Martinez prefers Barcelona

Athletic Bilbao player, Javi Martinez prefers leave Barcelona if his club. But more likely he will leave Atletico Bilbao because the dream of every player is to play in the Nou Camp.! But it is still to be seen to be happening qfar after the tournament.

Messi Play for Vilanova

Barcelona striker, Lionel Messi, has insisted he will continue to stay at the Nou Camp, despite the departure of Pep Guardiola. Tito Vilanova is substitute of Guardiola and Messi is happy to play under his direction. "I stand at the Barcelona and hope that everything be the same without Pep Guardiola. Tito has quite a different personality, but I hope he remains in charge of the club for a long time. This would mean that things are going well, "said Messi.

Barcelona - 42 passes 1 goal

Transfer Rumor of the Day: Ibrahim Afellay

Today we stop to examine the case of Ibrahim Afellay, midfielder for FC Barcelona who will be competing with the Netherlands at Euro 2012, which starts today. Newcastle has been named alongside other Premier League sides as a possible destination for Afellay, who is reportedly available for £6 million.

I sat down with Luis Mazariegos, who writes for SBN's fantastic FC Barcelona blog Barca Blaugranes, to pick his brain about Afellay. I hope you'll find his responses as informative as I did. A big thanks to Luis for providing his insight on this player.

First off, what is your overall impression of Ibrahim Afellay? If you had to pick 1 or 2 characteristics to define his game, what would they be?

He is very versatile, two-footed, and has very good technique. He has a pretty good burst of speed, and this is accentuated by the fact that he is quite a good dribbler which makes him even more dangerous. Those are perhaps his main strengths. He is also known for having a good long shot and accurate passing. His crossing is fine but perhaps not world-class for a wide player. He is not very good defensively but hopefully he won't be called to do that too often. Despite being fairly tall, 5'11", I don't think I've ever seen him win aerial battles. His goal return for Barcelona isn't very good, but that's partially because of the role he's been given.

Report: Barcelona To Offer Wayne Rooney £8m A Season To Move

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is on Barcelona's wanted list, according to The Daily Star, with the Catalan giants set to offer him a wage of £8 million a season after tax.

The Champions League holders are understood to have targeted the England international as a key summer signing.

Coach Pep Guardiola has apparently informed his squad that Rooney's signing is a priority, with the 24-year-old currently negotiating a new contract at Old Trafford.

As reports of financial problems at United grow, it has been rumoured that selling Rooney may well be the current owners' only way out of mounting debt.

The striker is believed to want wages of £140,000 a week which is proving something of a stumbling block to a new deal at Old Trafford. Rooney seemingly wants to end his career at United and his advisers are chasing a five-year deal for him.

However, Barca would apparently be able to pay him £200,000 a week and his tax, dwarfing anything United could offer.

There is no indication as to the potential size of any fee, but tabloid reports earlier this month claimed that both Barca and Real Madrid were pondering £80m offers for the England striker.

PSG to make €80 million move for Xavi Hernandez ?

Reports in French media claim that Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain have approached Barcelona midfielder Xavi over a possible move to Parc des Princes in the summer transfer window

Always looking for big names for next summer, Paris Saint-Germain have outdone themselves by approaching Barcelona star Xavi. According to ace, the talented midfielder is aware of the offer but is unlikely that the Spaniard will consider a move to Parc des Princes.

“The difference between our arrival in July and today is that everyone wants to come to Paris now. With Carlo Ancelotti, Leonardo, Jean-Claude Blanc, the club became attractive. I can guarantee that most of the major players want to come to Paris. This is a very encouraging sign.”

These statements were given by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi last week during an interview with France Football. Certainly a lot of hope for the PSG faithful has been left for the upcoming summer transfer window by these statements.

Moreover, with the January transfer window only recently concluded, the Parisian giants have been in Mercato news all around the world. If most of the news regarding player activity circulated on the other side of the Alps in Italy, it now appears that Spain is also under the surveillance of the cash rich Ile side.

Cadena SER already claims that PSG are seriously considering signing Gonzalo Higuain and Kaka from Real Madrid. However, it is now the turn of a Barcelona star to be linked with a move to Ancelotti’s revolution.

Xavi Hernandez is as good as they come in football and the midfielder who has literally won everything that his club has offered him, is now under the radar of PSG. Reports claim that the Spaniard was already approached several weeks ago through his entourage. However, feasibility of such a transfer seems clearly unrealistic and for several reasons.

PSG are willing to spend big but must pay Xavi’s release clause which is about 80 million Euros. The capital giants would then need to convince the player to leave his cocoon at Barcelona.

Furthermore, La Liga moves in a game plan that is tailored for Xavi which could be a reason why Xavi would never consider leaving the Catalan giants.

Piqué laments Villa and Puyol absence in the 2012 Euro

The Barça defender, who is with the Spanish national team for the 2012 Euro in Poland and Ukraine, believes that the absence of both Carles Puyol and David Villa will be felt by Spain's team

“I’m obviously going to miss Puyol, he’s almost a brother. However, there are quality players that can fill his absence,” said the player

Piqué also praised Jordi Alba: “he’s an amazing player, he surprised me. He’s flying in our training sessions, he’s small but very fast. He knows how to attack and defend”

“I get along great with Ramos, everything is always exaggerated from the outside"
“Jordi Alba is an amazing player, he surprised me. He’s flying in our training sessions, he’s small but very fast. He knows how to attack and defend”
This Friday at noon the FC Barcelona player Gerard Piqué held a press conference in the Polish town of Gniewino, where the Spanish national team is preparing for their EURO 2012 debut. The Azulgrana defender admitted that it will be difficult for him to play without Carles Puyol, the man that usually lines up in the middle of the defence with him for FC Barcelona and Spain. “I’m obviously going to miss Puyol, he’s almost a brother. However, there are quality players that can fill his absence.” Piqué is aware that the absences of the Barça captain and David Villa, both of whom are injured, are significant for the team managed by Vicente del Bosque. “We're going to miss Puyol and Villa because they are important players for the national team.”

No problems with Sergio Ramos

With Puyol out of action this summer, the starting defenders in Spain’s back line will most likely be Piqué and Sergio Ramos. The Azulgrana defender took the opportunity to rubbish the rumours that he doesn’t get along with his Real Madrid counterpart. “I get along great with Ramos, everything is always exaggerated from the outside. People also said that I didn’t get along with Guardiola all season long and that wasn’t true.”

Praise for Jordi Alba

In recent days there has been a lot of speculation linking Jordi Alba to FC Barcelona. Piqué was quick to heap praise on the young defender:“he’s an amazing player, he surprised me. He’s flying in our training sessions, he’s small but very fast. He knows how to attack and defend.”

Barcelona want Neymar and Messi playing side-by-side

Barcelona confirmed that Santos striker Neymar remains a target for the Spanish club and they want to have him and Lionel Messi playing side-by-side in 2013.
Barcelona promised to return to its endeavours in attracting the star striker, offering a new proposal to Santos by the middle of the year.

Neymar's contract with Santos was recently extended till the conclusion of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Xinhua reported.

Related to Messi, Neymar said that he hopes the Argentine continues to score goals at rapid pace so that he can analyze his movements and replicate them.

Barcelona optimistically declared that they hope to unite Messi and Neymar in 2013. Barca though will face stiff competition from arch-rival Real Madrid for the young star.

Neymar is currently Brazil's highest paid athlete, receiving an estimated $1.5 million per month.

Samuel Eto’o Open To Barcelona Return

Reports are out claiming that Samuel Eto’o has put the word out that he’d be interested in a sensational return to Barcelona.

The Anzhi Makhachkala striker was back at his former club this week to meet with old friends and ‘half-joked’ with coaching staff that he’d be interested in a return.

Eto’o knows Barca are in the market for an experienced striker, with Chelsea star Didier Drogba the latest big name mentioned, and El Mundo Deportivo says the Cameroon icon also wants to be considered.

Barca could sign Eto’o for €20 million this summer – which is well inside their transfer budget.

Kourtney, who is expecting a girl this summer, looked like an earth mother in an angelic white maxi dress with long sleeves.
Wisely choosing comfort so far along into her pregnancy she added flat black sandals.
Oversized sunglasses, a large leopard print bag and a bright green purse completed the look while her brunette locks were left flowing naturally.

Meanwhile, Kim wore a fierce structured black dress with a plunging neckline and her hair tied back in a high bun. She eschewed flats for high heeled gladiator sandals.
Kim’s outfit could be seen as a bit much for a family stroll with Kourtney, sister Khloe, brother Rob, mother Kris Jenner and Kris’s mother MJ, whose real name is Mary.

Broody Khloe, who has made no secret of her desire for kids with husband Lamar Odom, was happy to spend much of her time holding nephew Mason.

The family stopped to buy chocolate before shopping for children's clothes with Kourtney’s son Mason, who appeared to be enjoying both the chocolate, which he smeared all over his face and spending time with the various members of his family.
Fashionable as always, little Mason was decked out in light green pants and a striped top.
His mother was spotted picking up some cute children’s clothes, no doubt for him and his new sister.

Never the shy and retiring type, the girl’s mother Kris made sure she stood out in an eye-catching neon pink blazer, paired with a white shirt and black trousers and a bright yellow oversized bag.
Her own striking mother was chic in black and white with a bright red bag and wedges.
Rob was the only member of the family to let the stylish side down, sporting black shorts, a t-shirt and trainers with a black baseball cap covering his face.

And Matt said they quickly become inseparable after they started dating saying, 'she stole my heart'.
'If I am being really soppy, I will leave little notes around, telling her how much I love her.'

They may be keeping mum on those engagement rumours, but Lucy Mecklenbugh and Mario Falcone have no problem showing off how in love they are.
The TOWIE couple posted a PDA picture on Twitter yesterday evening, wishing their fans good night.
The self-portrait shows them sharing a kiss in bed as they prepared to go to sleep.

Lucy declined to respond to a number of her fans who replied to the picture on the social networking site, requesting that she clear up rumours that she has accepted Mario's proposal.

According to onlookers in Marbella over the weekend, Falcone, popped the question to his girlfriend during a moonlit boat ride.
But when they returned to shore, the reality stars ensured they kept their poker faces in place and have since refused to acknowledge the rumours.

It is believed that their engagement will be the big finale for TOWIE's summer special The Only Way Is Marbs, which is set to air on June 13, and that producers are keen to keep the dramatic storyline under wraps.
The cast have been filming scenes in the holiday spot for the past week but are returning to their usual Essex stomping ground today.
Mario and Lucy began dating last summer and he was quickly introduced to TOWIE viewers in the first episode of season three.

Their relationship hasn't been all smooth-sailing though, with the couple briefly splitting after it was revealed that Lucy had lied about waking up in bed with ex-boyfriend Mark Wright during a holiday last September.
The couple had only just reconciled when Lucy found a string of racy emails between Mario and other women.
But the duo have been getting along far better this year, with Mario asking fashion boutique owner Lucy to move in with him in a recent episode.
The Only Way Is Marbs airs on June 13 on ITV2.

'I used to be a tomboy... but now I love to wear cool s***!': Snow White star Kristen Stewart on the perks of fame

She used to be more at home in a pair of jeans and a tatty T-shirt but Kristen Stewart says she is finally embracing the fashion world.
In an interview accompanying a stunning haute couture fashion shoot in style bible Vanity Fair, the 22-year-old actress and face of Balenciaga, opened up about her new-found love of fashion.
Perhaps it’s as a result of being crowned the world’s best dressed woman in April but Kristen says she has now realised her job as a high profile actress has its perks, namely getting the opportunity to wear some ‘really cool s**t’ from the world’s top designers.

However, it wasn’t always this way and the star admitted to sporting her brother’s clothes and unshaven legs in her teens.
She said: ‘Look at a picture of me before I was 15, I am a boy, I wore my brother’s clothes, dude! Not like I cared that much, but I remember being made fun of because I wasn’t wearing Juicy jeans.
'I remember this girl in sixth grade looked at me in gym and was like, “Oh my God! That’s disgusting—you don’t shave your legs!”’

Kristen surprised onlookers in February when she was spotted shooting the fashion story in a Paris park as her strapless haute couture ballgown was a far cry from her previous grungy look.

Yet she posed for photographer Mario Testino like a pro with the results revealed in the latest issue of the magazine.
In the past year, Kristen’s evolving style has become evident as she graced red carpets wearing Balenciaga, Chanel, J Mendel and Roberto Cavalli.
In April, when naming her as the world’s best dressed woman, to the surprise of fashion followers, Glamour praised Kristen for her progression from 'awkward teen to style queen' and for always being 'effortlessly on-trend'.
However, Stewart – who is dating her Twilight Saga co-star Robert Pattinson - has no plans to leave her grungy style behind, saying the idea of looking perfect all the time terrifies her.
Despite being criticised for not looking perfectly groomed at every event, the precocious young star tells the magazine she is proud of being photographed looking less than perfect as it shows she is real and honest.

Gallant boyfriend Robert Pattinson chipped in to defend his girlfriend and Twilight co-star. He told VF: 'People have decided how they are going to perceive her.
'No matter how many times she smiles, they’ll put in the one picture where she’s not smiling.'
And Kristen added she would prefer for people to think she was a cool person than worry about what she looks like.

Kylie, Gurrumul star in Queen's concert

Kylie, Gurrumul star in Queen's concert

When it comes to music the Queen is fond of a blast from the bagpipes.
However, at Monday's Diamond Jubilee Concert - one of several events planned to mark the Monarch's 60-year reign - there will be much more than a windy squeeze from a tartan bag.
During a grand event staged in front of Buckingham Palace, international artists representing each decade of the Queen's reign will perform, and Australia will play an important role.
'It's exciting,' Kylie Minogue told AAP of her concert involvement.
'I love London at the moment. I was joking saying: I'm ready to put my bunting up.' You can't help getting swept up in the jubilee, and the Olympics is coming. It's very exciting.
'(The concert is) going to be in The Mall with Buckingham Palace behind ... I'll be nerve-wracked, but I'm looking forward to it.'
Australian Aboriginal artist Gurrumul will also be on stage and is featured in a track, Sing, written by Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Gary Barlow especially for the Jubilee, which will be performed live on the night.
'The song starts with a little girl from Kenya, where the Queen's reign started,' Barlow said. 'The last person to sing is Gurrumul, who has been blind since birth.'
Some 200 people from across the Commonwealth collaborated on the song, with joker Prince Harry playing the tambourine, Barlow said.
'The single ends with a blast of bagpipes ... they are one of Her Majesty's favourite things so we had to include them,' he said.
'I recorded our bagpipers in Australia, of all places. They are the Canberra Bagpipe Orchestra, but they had been taught by Scots pipers so the DNA is there.'
Ten thousand tickets have been issued for Monday's concert spectacular, which will be performed on a circular stage surrounding the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of the palace.
The Queen and Prince Philip, along with other senior royals, will be in the audience to see a star-studded line-up that also includes Elton John, Paul McCartney, Shirley Bassey, Cliff Richard, Robbie Williams, Jessie J, Annie Lennox, and Ed Sheeran.

Madonna kicks off world tour

Madonna has kicked off her new world tour in Israel with a call for peace in the Middle East and a performance featuring her son Rocco.
The 53-year-old is known for her extravagant, and often controversial, performances and this was no exception.
The show in Tel Aviv began with the singer dressed a skin-tight black outfit breaking through a glass window with a rifle which she then aimed at the audience.
For her first song, Girl Gone Wild, she was joined by dancers dressed as monks and her son, Rocco, whose father is director Guy Ritchie.
The 11-year-old wore an all-black outfit with bright red braces as he danced with his mum.
He then changed into a blue shiny vest and large headphones to show off more of his dance moves.
Madonna performed her recent release Give Me All Your Luvin dressed as a cheerleader and sang a mash-up of her classic hit Express Yourself and the similar sounding Born This Way by Lady Gaga.
In a small dig at the younger pop star, Madonna shouted to the crowd: 'She's not me.'
During the show the global superstar, who practices a form of Jewish mysticism known as Kabbalah, pledged her support for peace in the region.
'I chose to start my world tour in Israel for a very specific and important reason,' she told the audience to applause and cheers.
'As you know, the Middle East and all the conflict that occurs here and have been occurring for thousands of years, they have to stop.
'You can't be a fan of mine and not want peace in the world. 'So start today - every single one of you. If there is peace here in the Middle East, there can be peace in the whole world.'
She added: 'If we can all rise above our egos and our titles and the names of our countries and our religions, and treat everyone around us with dignity and respect, then we are on the road to peace.'
Madonna called for peace in the Middle East as she performed the first date of her world tour in Tel Aviv The singer has made personal pilgrimages to Israel in 2004 and 2007 and wrapped up her Sticky and Sweet tour with two concerts in the country after not performing in the country for 16 years.
During the shows, she wrapped herself in an Israeli flag and called the country the 'energy centre of the world.' Madonna arrived in Israel last week with her children, boyfriend, 24-year-old Brahim Zaibat, and a 70-person entourage.
After Israel, Madonna continues on to more than 30 countries in a sell-out 86 date tour.
This is the ninth world tour of her career. Her last one, two years ago, grossed more than $A412 million.

Peter Andre, Chris Brown collaboration

Peter Andre, Chris Brown collaboration

Peter Andre has hinted he is to collaborate with Chris Brown.
The 'Behind Closed Doors' hitmaker is currently working on a new album in Los Angeles and had 'some good chats' with the 'Run It' hitmaker, but refused to confirm whether they had led to plans for a duet.
He said: 'I'm writing my column from Los Angeles this week and my time in the studio is going really well.
'One of my highlights has been meeting Chris Brown, who's working in the same studio. Lots of people have been asking me if we're working on music together, but you'll have to wait and see. It's been really fun hanging out with him though and we've had some good chats.'
Peter is excited for his fans to hear the finished album, and has promised he is trying out a new musical direction.
He said: 'I'm actually working with the producers who've just made an album with Justin Bieber and they've also worked on Chris's album, so I'm in good company! I can't wait for you all to hear it - it's a new sound for me.'

The Killers desperate to perform live

The Killers desperate to perform live

The Killers are 'desperate' to perform live.
The 'Mr. Brightside' hitmakers are currently working on the follow-up to 2008's 'Day and Age' - which has the working title of 'Battle Born' - and can't wait to show off their new songs.
Drummer Ronnie Vanucci Jr. said: 'These songs are so good I'm just desperate to play some shows. I'd play the opening of a 7-eleven at this point.'
Frontman Brandon Flowers also admitted that taking four years out of the group to focus on solo projects has been a 'risk' but he hopes they can continue with their previous successes.
He told Q magazine: 'I'm sure taking too much time off is a danger. It's a bit strange to spend time learning to hone your skills and figure out what makes you unique as a band then take half a decade off.
'We just hope that lightening strikes again.'
The singer also revealed the album will be 'heavier' than previous efforts but will still be recognisable as The Killers.
He said: 'It's still eclectic, I've not thrown the keyboards away.
'But it's definitely heavier.'

Prometheus - first fans to see Alien prequel rave about sci-fi epic

Die-hard Ridley Scott fans caught the first showing of his much anticipated sci-fi thriller Prometheus in Leicester Square today and said it “surpassed expectations”.
The stars of the film, Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce joined the director on a special blue carpet last night for the world premier.
Hours later, fans who watched the midnight showing said it was “a tour de force” and praised Fassbender who plays an enigmatic robot called David.
Simone and David Brand, from Sydney, are in London on their honeymoon.
Teacher Simone, 26, said: “We decided to treat ourselves. My husband has been watching the previews and really wanted to see it, so we made the effort. It was amazing. The graphics were great.”
David, 30, an estate agent added: “It is just a fantastic story. It’s exciting to be one of the first to see it in the UK.”
Banker James Cunningham, 47, from Holland Park went to see the film with a group of friends.
He said: “It was emotional – it’s Scott’s tour de force in respect of the cinematography. It has a presence and immediacy which is breath-taking. There is a face-sucking bit which is brilliant.
“It does lack depth and character development, although it’s absolute entertainment, so in a way that doesn’t matter.”
Scott said last night his latest film possesses “strands of the DNA” of his original stomach-churning thriller, Aliens, which he directed more than three decades ago.
Twig Gilbert, 24, from East Ham , said: “The original Alien film is my favourite movie of all time so I had pretty high expectations for Prometheus. This surpassed my expectations– it was really everything I wanted.”
His friend, 27-year-old Sophie Francois, a visual merchandiser, also from East Ham, said: “The film is incredible, there were no holes in the story. Fassbender is a great actor  - he was one of the best bits of the film.”
She added: “I love Ridley Scott, if he makes any more movies, I’m there.”
Fifty-nine-year-old investment banker Eric Guichard from Southwark said: “The casting was fantastic. Fassbender was a perfect recreation of the character in Alien.
“This is one of Scott’s best projects. The best part was the fact that it was asking questions about whether a creator who is disappointed with what he made should destroy it and start again. That’s food for thought.”
